San Antonio HELP
S.A.HELP is a support group for PWH (People with Herpes) in the San Antonio, Texas area. We invite all persons of any age to our group meetings, which are at 7:00PM the second Wednesday of each month at the First Unitarian Universalist Church - 7150 IH10 West (Southeast corner of IH 10 & Loop 410, across IH 10 from Crossroads Mall). Look for us towards the back of the courtyard. The Church is kind enough to 'rent' us a place to meet, but we are not affiliated with them, or with any other religious organization.  S.A.HELP abides by the support groups rules of ASHA (American Social Health Association) [www.ashastd.org].  You can find 'HELP' support groups for other cities at  http://www.ashastd.org/hrc/helpgrp1.html.

San Antonio Friends 
S.A.Friends is a social organization for PWH (People with Herpes) in the San Antonio, Texas area. Although we are separate from S.A.HELP, we still try to be primarily a support group and not a 'dating' service.  Please see Antopia [antopia.com] and Meet People With Herpes [mpwh.com] for that.  We sponsor several events a month where we can relax and enjoy the company of others who share our "challenge".  Again, everyone is welcome (provided they are old enough for the venue). If you are a member of the special 'club', then we already consider you a member!  There are no other qualifications for either of our groups!  And we are pretty informal - just show up at our support group meetings and/or our social events!  We do not have a 'membership fee', but do try to collect enough from regular attendees to offset the minimal expenses that we incur (we 'rent' our support group location, and have other expenses for the calendar/newsletter mailings and for local advertising).

Are you hesitant to attend a meeting or event because you don't know anyone?  Or are you not yet comfortable enough with your H? We have volunteers that will talk to you by phone or meet with you individually (male or female). Each of us know what it is like to walk into that group for the first time without knowing anyone else there, and would like to help make your visit as comfortable as possible - we want you with us! PLEASE HELP US RESPECT EACH OTHERS PRIVACY. All events are usually be designated as follows:

Private	Sponsored event, regular members only (e.g. local planning sessions).
Closed	Sponsored event, any members, or anyone involved with a member (e.g. local support groups meetings).
Semi	Sponsored event, anyone may attend; non-members must be aware of the membership (e.g. private parties).
Open	Sponsored event, anyone may attend, non-members may not be aware of the membership (e.g. dancing/camping/bowling).
Public	Any public event, sponsored or not; (e.g. TxRenFest: members&non-members mingling from different cities).

If you do not know how an event is designated, then you may consider group meetings 'closed' and all other events 'open'. At any event outside a support group meeting, the subject of Herpes is not openly discussed. If you see someone at any event that you have not personally met at a support group meeting, please assume that they do not know what S.A.Friends is about. By the way, if you see someone you know from the group out in public - don't run!  We have decided that our standard excuse for knowing each other is "We must have met dancing" (if you're Baptist, oh well, no excuse is perfect).

Things to Remember / Affirmations

• Herpes is something that I have, Herpes is not what I am.

• Herpes was just another fork in the road in my life, one of many I have found along my journey.
  It is too late to consider those roads not taken, for now I must travel the path before me.

• There is only 1 simple rule about telling a potential partner that I have herpes: Before Sex!

• Our secret number is 437737. (Why? Because someone noticed it spells 'herpes' on a telephone pad.)
